Maybe you don’t care about salvation. I guess you have every right not to!
Perhaps you don’t believe in God.
That must be okay too!
You may have a dozen reasons and choose to not concern yourself with going to church, reading the Bible or praying. That is your choice.
But God believes in you and chose you.
It is written God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. (2 Thess 2:13)
Having God choose you is only half of the solution.
You must choose Him and there are some things you must realize.
You must realize that you are a sinner by nature.
It is written, there is no one righteous, no, not one. (Romans 3:10)
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
Sin is transgressing God’s law and includes such things as lying, lust, cheating, deceit, evil thoughts, immoral behavior and more.
And because of this you cannot save yourself.
If you wanted to save yourself by good deeds, do you know how good you would have to be?
Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. (Mt. 5:8)
With such a high standard, you can’t save yourself. No one can!
But in spite of your sin God is merciful and doesn’t want to punish you.
This is because God is love (1 John 4:8) He said; “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” (Jer. 31:3)
But just as the Bible says that God loves you it also says that God is just and therefore must punish sin.
He will by no means clear the guilty. (Ex. 34:7)
The soul who sins shall die. (Ezek. 18:4)
So now there is a problem. God loves you and doesn’t want to punish you but He is just and must punish sin.
God solved this problem for you in the person of Jesus Christ.
The Bible says very clearly that He is the infinite God-man.
In the beginning was the Word (Jesus) and the Word (Jesus) was God. (John 1:1)
And the Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14)
Jesus came to earth and lived a sinless life, but while on earth He died on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins and rose from the grave to purchase a place for you in heaven.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. (Isa. 53:6)
Jesus bore you sin in His body on the cross and now offers you eternal life in heaven as a free gift.
This gift is received by faith.
Many people mistake two things for saving faith.
Saving faith is not mere intellectual assent, like believing certain historical facts. The Bible says that the devil believes there is one God; so believing that there is one God is not saving faith.
Saving faith is not mere temporal faith, that is, trusting God for temporary crisis such as financial, family, or physical needs.
Now these are good, and you should trust Jesus for these, but they are not saving faith.
Saving faith is trusting in Jesus alone for eternal life. It means resting upon Him alone and what He has done rather than in what you have done to get into heaven.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved. (Acts 16:31)
The question that God is asking you now is would you like to receive the gift of eternal life?
Because this is such an important matter, let’s clarify just what it involves.
It means that you need to:
Transfer you trust from what you have been doing to what Jesus has done for you on the cross.
Accept Jesus as Savior. Open the “door” to your heart and invite Him in. He says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him.” (Rev. 3:20)
Receive Jesus as Lord; give Him the “drivers seat” and “controls” of your life, not the “back seat.”
Repent! Be willing to turn from anything that is not pleasing to Him. He will reveal His will to you as you grow in your relationship with Him.
Now if this is what you really want, you can go to God in prayer right now and receive His gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Rom. 10:10)
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Rom. 10:13)
If you want to receive the gift of eternal life through Jesus, then call on Him, asking Him for this gift right now.
Here is a suggested prayer:
Lord Jesus, have mercy upon my soul. I know that I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and shed His blood for the forgiveness of my sins. I believe Jesus rose again from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit and sits on the right hand of God making intercession for me. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and wash all my sins away. I repent of my sins and I invite you into my heart as my personal Savior. I accept Your free gift of salvation.
If this prayer is the sincere desire of you heart, look at what Jesus promises to those who believe.
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. (John 6:47)
